The Automobile Association of America (AAA) released a study conducted by their Foundation for Traffic Safety revealing that driving on only 4 to 5 hours of sleep is just as risky as driving drunk. “Experts recommend that healthy adults should sleep for at least 7 hours daily. The results of this study indicate that drivers who usually sleep for less than 5 hours daily, drivers who have slept for less than 7 hours in the past 24 hours, and drivers who have slept for 1 or more hours less than their usual amount of sleep in the past 24 hours have significantly elevated crash rates,” the AAA foundation for Traffic Safety concluded.
How can you get a better night’s sleep and avoid an accident? Sleep experts at the Mayo Clinic recommend that you stick to a sleep schedule – even on holidays or weekends. Pay attention to your diet and limit your caffeine intake. They also say you should create a bed time routine and make your room a comfortable place for sleeping.
Sweet dreams and safe driving!
