Bendit Weinstock, P.A. Files Suit Against HealthPlus Surgical Center

New Jersey medical malpractice attorneys from Bendit Weinstock, P.A. have filed suit against HealthPlus Surgical Center in Saddle Brook. The facility temporarily closed this past September and was forced to inform 3,778 patients about their potential exposure to blood-borne diseases such as HIV and hepatitis.

According to a state health report, HealthPlus committed several safety violations regarding the proper sterilization of medical equipment from January to September 2018. As a result, patients treated at the facility during those nine months may have been exposed to infected blood.

Investigations revealed that workers overstuffed loose medical instruments into a small disinfecting bag, possibly preventing the sterilant from contacting the entire surface of each instrument. Other instruments and equipment contained rust-like stains or were discovered among stained sheets.

New Jersey residents who received a letter of notification about their possible exposure can get tested at Hudson Regional Hospital at no charge. New York residents can get tested at a nearby LabCorp location. To schedule an appointment, call 1-888-507-0578 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday through Friday.
